had a really great time recording this one, was one of the first, i think, and riley and vince and i were fooling around a lot in my basement, smoking blunts and basically jamming around, riley had recently started playing the bass earlier that year, or somewhere around then, and we just had a riot of a time, jamming on and on, myself usually on the keys, vince on drums. this one took the shortest to make out of any of them
lyrics
hear the bird whistle,
hear the crow shout
it doesn’t even matter
'cuz you’re never gonna figure it out
ain't that a shame?
how can you remain?
except to know
before the rainbow
there goes the rain
a dead man tipped his hat at me,
been swirled in a mental spree,
every thought is infinity
when you’re frying inside fire city
it’s all too strange
to the deranged brain
that to lose
your heart to the rainbow
is to find it in the rain
in the drunken new moon night
frayed leaves become haunting flights
your heads crowded by the loss of light
but the stars poke out so pretty
with their hobo grin
you may begin
to let the night grow
sing earthy rainbows
and heavenly rain

Really gotta give Squat! a listen, I've got a bunch of pals in this band. My pal Pete is super riotous drummer, Matt is a warm-hearted madman and Tom is a guru at making surfy psychedelic melodies. Erk
