this one was all-together tough to record, ran into lots of problems, but i kinda liked how it reminded me of my older, longer-length electric stuff, and similar to the hollowscape, it describes pretty well my state of mind while writing and recording this stuff. also, my good pals riley and vince returned to help me with this one.
lyrics
lost boy crying to a crescent moon
awake in the night of pain
he looks down to a world that’s drowned
in an all pervading rain
and the stars
drive him insane
he looked close at the western coast
to try to find a hope
in the sun
but mere hope is just a way to cope
now he knows that
more than anyone
nothing blinds
quite like the sun
he spun his wheels into the fall of day
to remain in the dark for a while
searched the shade for a savory place
to gaze at the painful face of the night
and the rain
fell from the stars
and i'm doped up every night
so i can stumble my way
through the dawn
and laugh loud,
while i kiss the ground
the drooling dew spits in my eye
and it says
don’t you know the time?
well, forget the clock
and the faces that mock
and the lock in the socket of my mind
turn the key
for a speeding spree
down the streets toward a free mirage
the oasis fades
like a god
-
what awaits after the spotlights shot
is a certain singe-ing of the nerves
tangled trembling in bloody drying into sharp scars they bite and gnaw slowly twisting and convulsing
and this tickles you when you get your milk
or go to the spa
drive your car
it keeps you raw
and your brains like the cold cuts
and it doesn’t get warmer but you season it
and it’s only now that u wish the rats would come carnivorously
and with teeth reason with it
what remains when the spotlights shot
is a stage made empty by the dark
an empty auditorium where your own echos are the only ghosts and the lost souls you so thought you’d find even they
we’re poisoned by a wine called divine
and you hear the clock ticking but you can’t tell the time
and you feel out your mask and say "this ain’t mine"
and it’s not and the spot shines and you look at your feet
defeat defeat
shine on rain on
defeat defeat
muddied in clots of conceit
-
the desert eyes turned up
to the dry sky
wait for stars in the daylight,
the sulking sand
in your trembling hands
slivers through your fingers to freedom
despair melts in
the desert air
despair coughs
and begs me water
despair chokes on
its sandpaper throat
i hand it a sliver of rain.
refrain, refrain
refrain, refrain
refrain, refrain
calls the sky to the rain.

Really gotta give Squat! a listen, I've got a bunch of pals in this band. My pal Pete is super riotous drummer, Matt is a warm-hearted madman and Tom is a guru at making surfy psychedelic melodies. Erk
