about

this song was a love song i had written way back, and sorta hated, because it was really trying very hard to be poetic, and romantic, and all, i've been reading burroughs, and his catchphrases "disgust you to see it" and "worst thing i ever bent down for" come to mind. anyhow, then when that breakup happened, like a true wish-wash, i changed the lyrics to be about that. i wrote them in my brother's apartment, in manhattan, where i had smoked and gone up to the rooftop via the catwalk with my pal sky. some of the other lines were written while i was alone in my college dorm, up in boston.

lyrics

i’m in the night's street
when the lights meet dark drought,
the sky is rolled under a
cramping cloud,
but i just wanna see
a piece
of heaven

in my dark room
i don’t see myself,
don’t see my guitar
don’t hear the far off song of wealth,
and in that corrosion
into dark
my spark
flickers

streets are walking
but i’m standing still,
mouths are talking
but my frozen ears are filled
with breaking thoughts
of a face
in my chest's
cold safe

yeah, don’t look for me in the sea
as i sink into a sob,
don’t follow me
to my night's cold rooftop,
my eyes are closed
in icey streaming,
but i’m dreaming
of heaven
